Arrest made in California car accident that killed child

Most people in California are aware that they could potentially be putting their lives at risk every time they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. While they can potentially reduce their chances of such an outcome by ensuring that they follow all traffic laws and safety recommendations, drivers sometimes find themselves unable to properly respond to the negligent acts of others they may encounter. In fact, police believe failure to obey traffic laws was the cause of a recent fatal car accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on a day in early October. Reports indicate a 21-year-old male driver failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, it is reported that his vehicle struck another vehicle in the intersection.

Unfortunately, an 8-year-old boy in the second vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The driver of the first vehicle was not injured. Though police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision, they say that the driver did not have a license. As a result, he was taken into police custody, suspected of driving unlicensed and gross vehicular manslaughter.

No parent is ever prepared for the unexpected loss of their child. While the emotional ramifications of such a loss are obvious, many families also suffer financially as they attempt to cope with funeral expenses as well as other money-related consequences. Some people who lose a loved one as a result of a car accident caused by another's negligence choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those believed to be responsible. While a successfully presented case will likely do little to lessen their grief, they may be more able to focus on their recovery if they are not simultaneously worried about whether they can meet their financial responsibilities.
