There are likely times when a California driver knows that there are more risks involved in driving and more attention needs to be paid. For example, drivers likely are more cautious when driving in heavy traffic in poor weather conditions. However, most people have few worries about being involved in car accidents while in stopped traffic.
Unfortunately, police say that a 62-year-old man lost his life in a recent collision near a California intersection. Witnesses claim that a 38-year-old man was driving at a high rate of speed when he came upon stopped traffic. He is said to have lost control of his vehicle, causing it to crash into the back of another vehicle. Five other vehicles were ultimately involved in the crash.
The driver of the second vehicle died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. Police claim that the driver they believe caused the accident was under the influence, and he has since been arrested. One witness estimates that the now-arrested driver must have been driving a 80 or 90 mph.
When a family loses a loved one due to the negligent actions of another, knowing that criminal charges are being pursued often provides them with some peace that there may be justice for their loved one. However, criminal charges will do little to help them cope with the financial complications typically created by serious car accidents. Fortunately, they do have options in this regard, including filing a civil lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases can help grieving family members fully understand this process.
