Is law enforcement to blame for missing man's untended injuries?

A California man who was involved in a single-car rollover accident was located after a week of police investigation. The search for the missing man ended when police, clueless as to the man's whereabouts and without any promising leads, returned to the scene of the car accident to look for clues, only to find the man himself lying unconscious, but alive, in the thick brush adjacent to the scene of the accident.

California budget cuts could put nursing home patients at risk

California Gov. Jerry Brown recently proposed that the state budget be cut by more than $400 million this year. Critics of the move worry that the new budget cuts could cause a serious detriment to elderly patients, who may not get the reasonable standard of care they deserve because of funding cuts. Nursing home patient advocates spoke out against budget cuts during recent hearings, claiming that the protections necessary to ensure that the elderly receive proper care would be all but eliminated.

Downtown pedestrian hit by sleeping cab driver sues city

If you're standing outside a busy nightclub in downtown San Diego, California, odds are you're not thinking about a cab swerving off the road and into a crowd of people. But that's exactly what happened to a group of unfortunate club-goers over a year ago, and one of the victims says the city is to blame. The driver of the cab had fallen asleep before veering into the crowd of people, and the victim says this is the direct result of the city failing to adopt an ordinance needed to keep cab drivers from working too many hours.

Owners of dogs that fatally mauled woman set for San Diego trial

The family of a 76-year-old San Diego woman who died in December, six months after suffering severe dog bite injuries, may now finally see justice served. The woman, who was going to get the morning paper in her own yard, was attacked by her neighbor's two pit bulls. They mauled and bit the woman so severely she required amputation of both legs and one of her arms. Several witnesses could only look on in horror and said the dogs escaped from their owners' yard by ripping a hole in the woman's metal fence.

San Diego family heading to Disneyland in fatal car accident

A sad story unfolded recently in Southern California when the driver of a sedan swerved to avoid a collision, in the process slamming into an SUV carrying a group of five passengers heading for Disneyland. The results were nothing short of terrifying as the SUV skidded, flipped multiple times and stopped, hanging precariously on a highway overpass 30 feet above the ground. Fortunately, a quick-thinking construction crew working below the teetering SUV was able to use a forklift to support it until police and emergency workers could arrive on the scene. Tragically, one passenger died of severe head trauma, while the others were rushed to the emergency room with varying degrees of injury.
